I have been remiss in writing the Blog due to the unexpected increase in business over the past several months. An update:

  • Sept. 25th Fundraiser was a huge success. We raised over $2,000.00 from pony rides and games! Treehouse Foundation was so happy! Thanks to all the volunteers and staff at ELS that made this event such a huge success! Mongo’s in Clearview catered the event with the best BBQ.  The Whiskey girls taught Line Dancing in the arena. It was hilarious!

THANK YOU ALL,

We have had an overwhelming response to the May 22 Event and volunteers asking what they can do to help. I am humbled and not surprised that so many wonderful humans call HHABC their “Horsey-Home.”

We at HHABC understand how the economy has affected each of our lives and affected our family, friends and coworkers. HHABC strives to support local charities and provide education and awareness to the community through the HHABC Blog and other venues.

WHY SCHOLARSHIPS:

My primary life goal has been to educate and help people understand their world through the eyes of these humble, kind, cooperative (although opinionated and moody at times) equine partners and friends. To be selected as a herd leader by one of these creatures is a privilege and honor. They value character above all else: Kindness, Gentleness, Patience, Self-Control, Fairness, Loyalty, and Evenness of Temper.  These traits are lacking in much of our world and to find a place of tranquility in the presence of these great creatures as teachers is humbling.

As we humans (and especially this human) continues to strive and attain the character traits that horses value in their leaders, we at HHABC purpose to help others find and learn these same values.

One of the ways HHABC helps is through a Scholarship Fund for horse crazy kids that would otherwise not be afforded the privilege of learning from these great friends we call horses. Many families have come to me over the years with all of their child’s savings just to experience 1 (or maybe 4) lessons. I used to be one of these kids.

As we all know, horse experiences mean a whole lot more to many of us and the opportunity to share this experience is vital. I want to thank all of the current Human -Equine Assistance Lessons (HEAL) and Lessons For Life Partners at HHABC for making the dream a reality for so many kids that otherwise would not get this opportunity.

HOW IT WORKS:

HHABC and clients donate funds to allow kids of all ages the opportunity to continue lessons in this rich, character-building environment. While we have been able to assist some of the families that come to HHABC, our ultimate goal is to additionally help disprivileged kids through foster kid programs like Treehouse Foundation in Seattle.

Learn more …

This organization, like others, provides outlets through programs like Little Wishes and Summer Camp funds. HHABC would like to participate and offer programs to these kids.

If you are interested in finding out more or participating in this endeavor, contact robyn@horsehavenatbearcreek.com.  I have always believed, “change one child, you can change the world.”

Note:

Funds at this time are not tax deductible. We are currently researching the 501c3 Non-Profit status for “Hooves With Heart.” This Organization is the brain-child of many of us who wish to become involved in a higher purpose: for the sake of kids through horses. Over this next year, it is our desire to see this Foundation come alive! More information will be available on the Blog>category>Hooves With Heart.

Again, my heart felt thanks to all the HHABC clients and fans that are helping and will help to make this special Foundation and other programs for kids a reality!

HHABC is committed to assisting local charities that help support or provide for horses and humans in our community. This year we are once again partnering with Hope For Horses in Woodinville and Canyon Hills C0mmunity Church.

What a privilege it is to assist 2 great organizations in our local community that provide hope for hungry humans and horses.

Hope For Horses is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization registered to do business in Washington State located in Woodinville.  For nearly ten years, they have championed humane care of all equines through legislation, cruelty investigations, assistance in impoundment, rehabilitation, education, and outreach.  Horses are facing a crisis in our country.  Across the nation, they are being abandoned, left to starve, or forced to endure long treks outside our borders to a place of certain death .  They are starving, in need of medical attention, or have lost all hope.  They need our help.  They need your help.  Learn More about how you can volunteer or help this Charity of Champions assist our equine friends!

Canyon Hills Community Church Food Bank is opening May 1, 2010 to serve the surrounding local area at Canyon Park in Bothell, Washington. They need donations of food for the many hungry people who have been hit hardest by the economy. Click the link to find out what type of food they need. HHABC will be collecting the food donations at the May 22 event.

Thanks to all of you HHABC clients on your quick response to the Trail Ride Lunch Adventures! The response was so great, we added another date for June 12. Email:  ann_lea@hotmail.com for more details and to sign-up. It was already filling up by 4/25/2010.  We hope you all take pictures and share your experience with the rest of us that can’t go yet!  What a great way to see the beautiful Sultan area at the foothills of the Cascade Mountain range here in Western Washington. Enjoy the view!

Anyone can call or make reservations for other dates (not with HHABC folks) throughout the Summer. Just mention HHABC and a donation will be made to HHABC Scholarship Fund.  Thanks for all those who help make HHABC the best place for ALL  horse loving kids and adults!

What an unusual month we have had here in Seattle. Warm (55-58) and sunny! Yesterday it was glorious and we took full advantage outdoors for our first field lesson for the year.  The horses and kids were frisky and happy to soak up some well-needed Vitamin D.

During the Summer, we try to spend as much time as possible outdoors in our obstacle field to build skills needed on the trails or just for fun in the sun.  Last Summer we had to cancel lessons when the temp soared above 105.  That is record heat here and not fun for kids or our horse friends.  We are fortunate the rest of the year to have lessons in a covered arena.
