Kid’s Riding Lessons
Riding Lessons for Kids & Youth:
Instruction at Equine Life Solutions starts early. From Intro to Ponies to jumping bareback basics, our lesson programs offer a variety of horse experiences for kids and youth from 3 to 18.
The trainers reserve the right to change horses when it becomes necessary to the health, safety or well-being of the horse or student.
Pony Partner Club: 3-6 and 7-10 years old
Our Pony Partner Club is our most popular economical program. It was developed to introduce children to the wonderful world of horses before making a long-term commitment. We offer weekly, bi-weekly, and casual classes.
3-6 year olds
At this age, parents assist with the grooming and preparing the horse to ride with the assistance of one of our qualified “helpers.”
This activity lasts approximately 30 minutes so the child gains confidence by learning about the horse before getting on their back.
Additionally, muscle memory, focus and confidence are rapidly developing. Kids will then ride approximately 30 minutes and learn bareback exercises to prepare them for further skills required to ride on their own. Upper body strength is developed along with a growing appreciation of respect, patience, and gentleness.
7-10 year olds
At this age, independence is achieved as kids learn with a “helper” without the need for a parent as they prepare to ride. An Instructor teaches the young students to become independent from the helpers over time.
Due to the popularity of these classes, parents need to book 2-3 weeks in advance (due to small class size). Learn More…
Private Weekly Lesson Program for Kids and Youth
Private riding lessons are offered for 7+. These one-on-one classes are recommended for kids with low confidence,
At this age we focus on building confidence by emphasizing awareness and safety around ponies and horses. Our kids are posting bareback at a very young age. They learn early body awareness (including simple anatomy) and exercises that help develop posture and strong trunk control.
Students also gain upper body strength with the use of special reins for little hands. Self-control is emphasized at this level. Lessons are private until the young rider learns to navigate safely in the arena with other riders These classes are one hour in length and include preparing the horse to ride through grooming and tacking. Most importantly, children learn early to respect and be kind to our furry friends.
Whether your teen has never been on a horse or has ridden for many years, they will enjoy the fun activities at the barn that will help them improve their skills and grow into responsible, respectful equine leaders. Communication is emphasized – both with the horses and with each other.
